Hantavirus in Chile — 2025
Chile hantavirus surveillance — Patagonian region monitoring and ratada vigilance
Overview
Chilean Andes virus surveillance through 2025 continued to focus on the Aysén and Los Lagos regions in the south of the country, which historically report the highest per-capita incidence. National annual case totals tracked within the multi-year range of roughly 50–90 confirmed HPS cases. Monitoring of native bamboo flowering — which can foreshadow rodent population irruptions — remained part of the broader public-health protocol established after the 1997 Aysén ratada.
